Another option is the open-source project, mplayer:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/info.html

This supports Linux and Windows. I have tried the Windows version and it
plays back the 3 video clips included in the DVEVM. It is able to
"guess" the codec by looking at the elementary streams so you do not
even have to tell it the codec type. For example, "mplayer
davincieffect_ntsc.264" will play the H.264 clip. There are various GUI
front-ends, but I have only used the command-line player.

Another nice feature is that it can produce elementary streams from
program or transport streams. I have not tried all the various stream
formats, but the few I have tried I have been able to get an ES video
clip to play back on the DVEVM. See the -dumpvideo and -dumpfile options
in the file man_page.html in the distribution.

I am using the latest pre-release:
C:\tmp\mplayer>mplayer davshort.m2v
MPlayer 1.0pre8-3.4.2 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team

Subject: How to play the recorded MPEG4/H.264 streams on a PC

Dear all,

How is it possible to play the recorded videostreams on a PC?
Which programm should I use? Are there special codecs necessary?

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Stefan
