No, it was something else, I don't know exactly what. At a certain point I
was no longer able to boot the kernel too, it freezed after the
uncompression (obviously I've applied your machine number patch); oddly, it
seems that the same problem occurred to a couple of persons in the last few
days. I wonder if the EVM is sensitive to ionospheric disturbances or solar
eruptions; in the past I've had some very funny malfunctions with older EVM
coming from Spectrum Digital. ;-)

Anyway, now it works, but it still sucks. I get a transfer rate of about 1.9
MB/s - which is even worse than 1.2 MB/s, because it means that USB
high-speed is active. Moreover, during the transfer the system is
practically hogged (99.9% of the time spent in rpciod and cp). Unchecking
the "disable DMA" box in the configuration makes it only worse; SPRUE35
states that DaVinci USB controller supports DMA, I'll try to look into that.

With the same USB key I got a T/R of 18 MB/s under the Linux PC workstation.
Can someone make a test with a USB key and tell me if this is a problem of
mine or it's just the actual "state of the art"?

Cheers, Lorenzo
