Thanks to Kevins suggestion I updated my git (ver 1.4.3.4) and I was able to obtain the latest git tree.
 
http://git.or.cz/
 
The second issue I ran into was that the git tree uses gcc version 4.x and my board has gcc 3.x on it.
 
What do I have to do in order to get gcc version 4.x on my board.
 
This was the other way:
 
cp -a  opt/mv_pro_4.0/montavista/pro/devkit/arm/v5t_le/target/* .

Try updating your git/cogito to at least the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ cg-version
cogito-0.17.3
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ git --version
git version 1.4.1
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$
