Quan,

Windows Media Player is based on DirectShow architecture.
For WMP to be able to read a media file, it needs that various
DirectShow filter to be present on PC :
- a source filter to parse the MP4 file format :
    - read the format
    - identifiy the used codecs
    - demux payload and timestamp
- appropriate filter for the elementary stream decoder

Unfortunately, Windows comes pre-installed mostly only with
support for Windows Media files and codecs (plus a little
of MPEG-2 and MP3).

So you need to install a package for this.

I suggest using ffdshow. ffdshow is an open source package that
provide DirectShow filters around ffmpeg project. This will include
both MP4 file format and MPEG-4/H.264 decoders plus a lot
of other stuff.

Other solution is to install a player that natively support
those formats. This is the case of VLC, MPlayer or QuickTime
for example (may have restrictions on the supported profiles)

Beware also that the demo on the board DO NOT generate MP4
format. They generate elementary stream that should be stored
with a .M4V (resp. .264) extension. Some recent versions of
VLC and MPlayer can read those files directly.
MP4 is, as you pointed, a multiplexed container. Mis-naming
an elementary stream as a MP4 may prevent it to be read
correctly by some players.
=> M4V files cannt be played in WMP using ffdshow
but can be played on VLC for example.

If you want to generate a proper MP4 file from the M4V elementary
stream, you can use the mp4box or mp4ui tools.

Regards,

Jean-Michel.

Hi everyone ,

How can I play an mp4 file encoded by Encode DaVinci demo ?

Normally , an mp4 file should contain both video and audio but video and
audio seperate in Encode demo ? That's why WMP cannot detect that file
though it was saved on mp4 format.

Have you got any documents talking about video/audio formats used in DaVinci
?

Regards,

Quan
