I've tried this and ended up with a system that didn't boot. :( If you go this route you REALLY need to know exactly what you are eliminating (as builds are not exactly fast). DO note that they have some restrictions (and are very cranky about violators). We went this route and added what we needed. Granted, it isn't tiny (35 meg), but then we also haven't optimized it as yet.
