Amol,

1) MontaVista licensed kernels have the latest, tested, indemnified and final
patches that TI produces. Although we often times make beta patches available
to users on the DVEVM updates site, those are beta patches that have not been
through MontaVista Q&A. We might eventually push those updates back onto the
git kernel, but there will be a delay between it being available in git and
being available on the MontaVista Zone (for licensed users). For the latest,
robust and proven kernel, TI recommends going with a MontaVista Licensed Kernel.

2) There is NO indemnification included in the DVEVM preliminary demo version
of MontaVista Linux. If a customer wants to go into production with that
version of Linux, he needs to do the due diligence of making sure what he uses
is open source (a good amount of the drivers etc are). Or, he could use the git
kernel with a clear conscience as the git kernel is completely open source.

Using a MontaVista Licensed Kernel allows you to relieve these concerns as it
is completely indemnified by MontaVista. As the cost is only $6995 per
kernel/driver developer (with cost reduction for multiple seats), we believe
our customers will find the benefits of a robust, up to date linux system with
indemnification to be very affordable. Remember there are no royalties with MV
Linux and you can use the licensed kernel among other DM644x products without
paying extra.

Best Regards,
Huy

Subject: git kernel and mv licensed kernel

Hi,

I have some queries wrt git kernel and montavista licensed kernel

1. What is the difference between them ? I think all the patches that are
available as a part of licensed kernel are already part of git kernel . Am I
correct ? Are there some more enhancements/patches that are _only_ available in
mv licensed kernel and not in git kernel ?

2. I have DVEVM & use mv kernel that comes as a part of dvevm. Do I need to
take montavista license for going to production?

Thanks

   I boot the board form flash using the root filesystem in hard disk. And I
unplug the network cable. In the course of the boot,
  1 . Sending DHCP request, it will try two times and hold up several
minutes. How to skip the procedure.
  2.  Find:  ./syslogd.pid:  Input / Output error.
       Find: ./klogd.pid: Input / Output error.
       Find: ./rpc.lockd.pid: Input / Output error.
       Find: ./inet.pid: Input / Output error.
       Find: ./mvltd.pid Input / Output error.

Updating /etc/motd...sed: can't read /etc/motd: Input/output error
mv: cannot stat `/etc/motd': Input/output error

   How to solve this problem.
   Thanks.

Hi,

Our embedded engineer has solved reboot problem by modifying UBL code.
I am sorry that i am not allowed to share this part.

Steve

Hello, davinci-linux-open-source

In demo code, function decodeVideoBuffer(), it will reject frames but return
SUCCESS.

    status = VIDDEC_process(hDecode, &inBufDesc, &outBufDesc,
                            &inArgs, &outArgs);
    if (status != VIDDEC_EOK) {
        if (status == VIDDEC_ERUNTIME ||
XDM_ISFATALERROR(outArgs.extendedError)) {
            return FAILURE;
        }
        else {
            stats->framesRejected++;
            return SUCCESS;
        }
    }

what reason can cause ti-h264-decoder reject frames?

Hi Steve,

Could you at least share what's the essence of your workaround? Do you
program PSC before trying to configure DDRC? This is what I do.

Ivan
