Not positive exactly what you're doing, but it appears you're trying to
compile gtk natively on the target.  Why don't you use the MV cross
compiler instead?

Basically what is happening is that you're running out of memory on the
target, and the OOM killer (Out Of Memory) is kicking in, killing apps
until enough memory is freed up.  Lucky for you, the OOM killer picked
gcc, thus terminating your compile.

My advice: cross compile.
