Hi You can only have one type of FLASH active at any one time on the DM6446. See definition of jumper J4 in the DaVinciEVM_TechRef.pdf file.
The default is NOR FLASH active and I believe it is the NOR FLASH that is holding your kernel not NAND FLASH. I would guess this is why you don't get the NAND seen by the kernel. Beats me, I use the hard disk myself ;-) Incidentally, the use of NFS as a root filesystem should not cause the NAND FLASH to fail to appear to the kernel if it was there.
