Erm, I think that sorta defeats the purpose of 720P encoding wouldn't
it? The descaling at the first stage would result in a net loss of
information which cannot be recovered;

However, if you just want a effective SD resolution scaled to 720P using
bicubic scaling or its variants, then yes it is maybe possible - the DSP
utilization at a VBR H.264 encode of D1 high motion scene itself goes up
to about 76-85%, with the VICP co processor being on. Scaling should be
able to fit into this MIPS budget

 

However, doing native 720P encode/decode on the C6P+ is next to
impossible I think with the DM6446 based on the MIPS numbers - TI has
released the 6467 to meet this niche (can do 720P encode/decode and
1080i encode/decode)
