Hi,
We have developed an XDM video analytics codec for the DM6446 and we
want to protect our codec so that it can only be used when appropriately
licensed.
Does anybody have any experience in this field? Any app notes or such
like?
My main concern is that the DSP codec will have to find out some data
about the system (e.g. MAC address, processor serial no (is there one?),
system time, etc), but as far as I can tell, the DSP side is not allowed
to directly access a lot of the peripherals on the DM6446 - this job is
normally up to the ARM. Obviously having the ARM do the licensing is not
secure, so it has to be done on the DSP side.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Ben

Hi,
I'm trying to test the ASoC audio code on Davinvi EVM
using the latest git tree. I've applied two patches kindly
sent to me by Kevin Hillman that add EDMA support currently
missing in latest git.
The audio playback works ok, but when I try to modify various
codec parameters from alsamixer, I start getting the following
messages:
i2c_davinci i2c_davinci.1: controller timed out
At this point the audio is unusable, and the system should
be rebooted.
Any ideas what could cause I2C controller timeouts, and how
to debug them ?
Thanks a lot.
Felix.

hi steven,
Thanks for ur reply, i tried as per your suggestion by giving
this command
mknod /dev/video0 c 81 0
It created that node but it is displaying same message.

hi, dilip.
Maybe vpfe module is not enable in your new kernel? Pls check Davinci
Capture Decoder in menuconfig.
or you can try create device node manually.
In my board, its major number is 81, minor 0;

I had this when moving from DM355 EVM to our custom board. I don't know
if it would be the same kind of issue on DM6446..
On ours, the problem was that the VPFE driver has support for the
TVP5146 deoder written into it, it failed to communicate with that chip
over I2C and failed to finish loading.
I went in with a machette and cut all the TVP5146 stuff out and it works
now.

Subject: Problem with opening /dev/video0 device
Hi all,
We have installed new tool chain dvsdk 1.30.00. We have our custom board
developed on DM6446(Davinci) processor.
When we are running "./encodedecode" demo (TI sample demo) on our board
with new version, if is displaying message
can't open /dev/video0 : No such file or directory
but with old version (dvsdk 1.0), it is working properly. (/dev/video0
is used for caturing data from CCD-interface).
Atfer board is boot up with new version , we checked the "/dev" folder.
"video0" device is not present, but when we boot with old version, it is
present in /dev and it works properly.
If anyone has faced the similar problem, please let us know.
Following are the kernel-settings we have enabled for V4L2 capture as
built-in before creating uImage:
Device Drivers--> Multimedia devices--> <*> video for linux
-->video for linus -->
<*>Davinci Video Capture
---TVP5146 video decoder
---MT9T001 sensor
Following are the environment variables ("bootargs") setting:
For old version dvsdk 1.00.00, the settings are:
1. setenv bootargs 'console=ttyS0,115200n8 noinitrd rw root=/dev/nfs
nfsroot=10.50.40.216:/root/workdir/filesys,nolock
ip=10.50.40.236:10.50.40.216:10.50.40.1:255.255.248.0:Elix1000::off
mem=120M'
2. setenv run 'setboot;tftpboot 0x86000000 uImage_DVBS;bootm 0x86000000'
setenv bootcmd 'run setboot;tftpboot 0x86000000 uImage_10;bootm
0x86000000'
For new version dvsdk 1.30.00, the settings are:
1.setenv bootargs
video=davincifb:vid0=720*576*16,2500K:vid1=720*576*16,2500K:osd0=720*576

nfsroot=10.50.40.212:/home/workdir/filesys,nolock mem=120M
2.setenv bootcmd 'setenv setboot setenv bootargs \$(bootargs)
davinci_enc_mngr.ch0_mode=\$(videostd); run setboot;tftpboot 0x86000000

Yes, and where it does standards detection etc, hard-code it to the one
you want..
If you wanted it to work in the same way as the old driver, you would
need a more thorough rewrite of those sections. For my purposes this is
lower priority so I have just hard-coded it.
