We do this on DM355, using in-house code (sorry.)
You might want to look at ffmpeg, I seem to remember that's what the
DM355-based HD IP camera reference design uses.

Subject: DM355 encode to avi container
Hi,
I need the DM355EVM to record to SD Card in a container format
(e.g. filename.avi). I know that gstreamer has been ported to the
DM355 but only plays the avi. Has anyone successfully done the encode
to avi container? Please let me know.
