Didn't configure one for this board yet ... being able
to talk on the network was an important precursor!   :)

Could be; I've only used the dm9000 for light traffic so far.

If that driver has problems (which I could believe), they're
somewhat orthogonal to the basic ability to talk to the chip
and get it to send/receive packets.

By the way, the dm9000a (on this board) doesn't need the
external MII stuff.  Maybe toggling the Kconfig option
for lighter weight link monitoring would help.
