Nitin,
Having a AB connector does not prevent your EVM from working as
Host. Infact it gives you better flexibility to either configure as Host or
device.
If your board designer confirms that the board is configured for Device alone
(ID pin pulled up, no charge pump etc.) configuration then you cannot operate
as Host.
If not try connecting a Mini A plug to A receptacle adapter. With
this you should be able to connect to USB Sticks pretty comfortably.
Another way is to follow the procedure from Linux which another
community member has posted earlier in the thread.
Regards
swami

Subject: RE: Kernel and FS download through USB to EVM/custom board's NOR flash
Hi Swami,
Thanks for the info, please let me know the u-boot version where this feature
is available. I am using 1.1.4 may be pretty old.
But in our custom board we have the USB port configured for device mode only
with miniAB connector mounted.
So I do not think so U-Boot can configure it as Host and use it for downloading
:(
Any ways in Linux from PC?
Thanks and Regards,
Nitin Joshi

Nitin,
DaVinci USB support has been added recently to U-Boot. You could
build a new U-Boot with USB support enabled.
With this support you can access USB Sticks/HDD directly from U-Boot. You can
copy the respective Kernel, file system images from the USB Stick. This I
think will significantly expedite your development process.

swami

Hi Swami,
Thanks for the quick response.
The serial download which I am doing it now for kernel and Ramdisk is taking
around 20 min.
Method I am following is loadb(via Kermit) followed by cp.b to NOR via
HyperTerminal.
So, I just thought some USB tool is already available to download (to NOR) from
Linux.
Please let us know, Is there any other way from U-Boot/Linux for faster
downloading
Thanks and Regards,
Nitin Joshi

Subject: Kernel and FS download through USB to EVM/custom board's NOR flash
Hi all
I have a quick question regarding USB download. i.e
I would like to download my Kernel and FS (presently Ramdisk) into the NOR
flash through USB.
Is there any way to do that?
I am doing it through serial port as we do not have an Ethernet port on our
custom board.
Other details:
- Board is based on DM6446
Please let me know if there is any way to download through USB
Thanks and Regards,
Nitin Joshi
