There are other JTAG options than the xds510 and friends, but many of them are at least as expensive. If you don't actually need everything you get with CCS, Lauterbach, or similar ... I think the next release of the OpenOCD software will support things like reflashing NAND on the dm355. So $US 50 JTAG adapter can get you some useful functionality, albeit less than what CCS has.
