Hello,
My team has been focusing on the Eclipse development environment, which
supports a wide variety of third party plugins, including SQL execution
tools. I've been using the Quantum SQL plug-in for most of my ad-hoc
queries and updates. Quantum also has statement history, result set
history, as well as some of the nice cut&paste features that made Command
Center worth using. Eclipse is freely available at http://eclipse.org and
the available plugins are listed at many sites, including
http://eclipse-plugins.2y.net
There are a few disadvantages, though. Being a Java application, the
Eclipse environment may not perform much better than Control Center
(although its use of SWT in lieu of JFC/Swing is a major improvement by
itself). Like any other third-party SQL editor, Quantum will not be able to
issue DB2 commands that are sent over an attachment, or most non-SQL
commands (such as RUNSTATS) . This may be a good thing, though, since I
have war stories about the resulting confusion when Command Center would
send SQL down the JDBC connection, and DBA commands + DML down the other
connection it would open through db2bp. Inevitably, one would lock the
other, and I'd have to pull out my FORCE club.
Hope this helps,
Fred Sobotka
