Hi Helen,

why not define the sms tablespace with numerous containers? If the complete table will be 10 GB, I'd suggest having 6 containers to make sure none of the files exceeds the 2 GB limit. But remember: You cannot add new containers to an SMS tablespace as simply as to a DMS (you'll have to do a redirected restore for that), so calculate carefully before defining. That's the price of not wasting HD space.

Greetings

Subject: [DB2EUG] 6 gig table on AIX

Dear list,

I have several 6-10 gig tables I need to put on AIX.  They will be write once and read a few times.   I would like to use SMS so that I can maximize my storage space.  I know performance will not be as good as with DMS, but the customer number one concern it to maximize the disk utilization.  I have run into a 2 gig file size limit on the AIX box.  Does anyone have any suggestions around this or do I need to put these tables in DMS space?

Thanks,

Helen Johnson
