We have a 500 GB data mart (the star schema tables directly queried by end-users) and a 500 GB data warehouse (the detailed atomic level data stored in an entity relationship model which feed the data mart). Currently both components are hosted on a z-series (OS/390) DB2 platform. We are evaluating the pros and cons of moving either the data mart or both the data mart and the data warehouse to a p-series UDB platform.
Has anyone out there been through such a conversion, and if so, what was your experience? Any comments or lessons learned related to any of the following would be valuable: 1) reliability 2) performance 3) supportability 4) cost (of the conversion itself, and/or a comparison of the two platforms while in production) 5) advanced features of DB2-AIX over DB2-mainframe 6) ability to employ parallelism 7) ability to employ Star Join 8) specific p-series hardware architecture chosen (e.g. P690 vs. P655 or SMP vs. MPP) Thanks - ::: When replying to the list, please use 'Reply-All' and make sure ::: a copy goes to the list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). *** To unsubscribe, send 'unsubscribe' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** For more information, check http://www.db2eug.uni.cc
