Run time tests are fine, but usually, in the Linux world, problems are already 
detected at configure time. 
 
So if we test for some maximum KDE version at run time, we should do it at 
configure time as well. 
 
(This would be a good occasion to get KDE major, minor and release version 
numbers in some configuration variables. Current configure test hardcodes the 
comparaison with KDE 3.2, it's not flexible enough.) 
 
I am starting to think that this maximum version number thingie deserves an 
issue of its own...
