I have a question if it is in the driver sphere (not that I understand the full implications of this). The reason I say this is because under my java application if I use dbConn = DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/kishkush?characterEncoding=Hebrew", "root", "han"); then everything works. If it were the mysql driver, I would expect this to fail. I could still be wrong, but that is the way it looks at this moment.
