Seriously, those so-called assertions can either be ignored (by choosing "No"),
lead to immediate termination (by choosing "Yes"), or to a so-called core-dump
(by choosing "Cancel"). This is what the message box text says, too.
A core-dump differs from a straight crash in that it is caught when you run OOo
in a debugger, an as such it is highly useful for debugging the error. So, it
indeed works as designed here.
