Just for grins I tried with the RC for HSQLDB 2.0, but the changes between the versions are too great for me to get it working well enough to test. I am curious as to whether the database that you are using (the 13,000 records) ever had any records deleted. Unfortunately, we had an issue a while back where someone on the staff accidentally duplicated a few hundred records and then just deleted the duplicates. Thus, the record numbers do not match the key numbers. (In other words, records 1, 2, and 3 might have key values of 1, 2, and 3, but records 2100, 2101, and 2103 might have key values of 3110, 3112, and 3240.)
