OK - slightly off-topic, but not wholly irrelevant, either...

Last night (2006-10-23) I was getting some puzzling results from CPANPLUS,
and eventually found that the files at ftp://ftp.cpan.org/pub/CPAN (such as
the three control files used by CPANPLUS and CPAN modules) were dated early
October (say 8th October) instead of 22nd or 23rd October.

I reconfigured to use some alternative locations in preference to
ftp.cpan.org, and a whole bunch of previously anomalous behaviours (wrong
versions, missing modules)

Is this a known problem? Is ftp.cpan.org known to be out of date, or is it
(or was it) some sort of accident?
