I, not having an English native tongue, would read that change as a change from "The callback is going to die" to "the callback is going to be painted". I know that would have to be "dyeing" but still not an improvement. "dieing" is pretty common as "die" is a perl keyword. Maybe "die-ing" would be the best approach.
