client => mysql  Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.18, for suse-linux (i686)

Server => mysql  Ver 11.18 Distrib 3.23.58, for portbld-freebsd4.1.1 (i386)

  ...which is the problem, I didn't realize the server version was that old.

  I ran all test successfully against

Server => mysql  Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.11, for portbld-freebsd5.3 (i386)

 ** Will the current DBD::mysql not work with mysql < 4.0 ?
