Two Minutes To Live!

“You must always be ready, for you do not know what time the Son of Man will
arrive.” Matthew 24:44, Phillips.

A few years ago at a meeting in the State of Washington I heard Elder E.R.
Walde, president of the North Pacific Union, tell a very interesting story.
Elder Walde told the story so vividly I can remember it almost word for
word,

An air Force bomber was coming in for a landing after a World War II mission
over Europe. Verne, an injured member of the crew, was caught in the bomb
bay, half in and half out. No one could get to him, and when the plane
touched down it would be the end for him.

Verne knew he had just a few minutes to live. The chaplain of the base was
called to talk to him by radio as the plane came in.

“Verne,” the chaplain said over the radio, “you know you are in a tough
spot. Are you prepared for anything that happens?”

A faint Yes came through in response, “It’s O.K., chaplain,” Verne
continued, “I’ve made everything right with God, and I’m ready to go. Please
write my mother, give her my love, and tell her everything is all right.”

The youth choked, and the chaplain began to pray. “’Our Father which art in
heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth. …’”

The plane belly-landed. All of the crew but Verne were safe. For him it was
the end. The chaplain shook his head. “Only two minutes to live! Only two
minutes to live!”

It’s a solemn thought. Some of us joining in our morning worship together at
this time may have only a short time to live. Are we ready?

I read a shocking statement from the Spirit of Prophecy the other day. I
want you to think about it. “Even some who other day. I want you to think
about it. “Even some who profess to be looking for His appearing are no more
prepared for that event than Satan himself.” – The Adventist Home, p. 328.

How sad that some who believe that Jesus is coming, who belong to the
church, are no more ready for Jesus’ appearing than Satan himself! Think it
over, young people! It’s serious. Little wonder Jesus says, “You must always
be ready, for you do not know what time the Son of Man will arrive.
