Mr. Satoshi Fukushima (age 45) who is deaf-blind person is promoted from assistant professor to professor in the University of Tokyo's RCAST (Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology)at October 1. This is the first time deaf-blind person become a professor in Japan. It's pretty rare in even the world. He majors in barrier-free theory. Mr. Fukushima said, I will exert myself to abolish every barrier in university and society. To establish the institution in barrier-free education and research and Japanese Helen Keller Center. I want to make it my lifework. Mr. Fukushima became all-blind at age 9, and even became deaf at age 18, but he became the first deaf and blind person in Japan to enter university with finger Braille's assistance, a method of conversation through fingertip taps that simulate Braille letters. He has served as an associate professor at the University of Tokyo since April 2001. .
