Tuesday December 2, 2008 WHILE HE'S AWAY
"The truth is, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father. Yes, ask anything in my name, and I will do it! "If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you do, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. No, I will not abandon you as orphans - I will come to you. In just a little while the world will not see me again, but you will. For I will live again, and you will, too. When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Those who obey my commandments are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them, and I will love them. And I will reveal myself to each one of them." John 14:12-21 The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.do we live it? One of the words that describe the truth is "reality." Do we live in reality? Jesus was preparing His followers for a future reality when He would no longer be with them. He wanted them to know that even though He would no longer be with them physically, He would send another Counselor who would be with them spiritually; which would be better for them. Okay, first and foremost - Jesus will come again! That is reality. If God's Word says it we must believe it to be true. However, during the period of grace, the time between His leaving and His coming again, Jesus exhorted His followers to continue His work and to call on His name for their needs to be met. Wow! Let's suppose that we have a few children still living at home (this is a reality for more people than you realize). Now, suppose we are going on a trip. While we are gone there are certain things that need to be done, i.e., bills paid, plants watered, and certain obligations that need to be fulfilled. So, we give our children the privilege and responsibility to get those things done in our absence. When it comes to things pertaining to money perhaps we give them a credit card. Therefore, when they use our card, in our name, they get results. Now, the reality is.if our children love us they will complete the tasks assigned to them and in doing those tasks they will learn a little bit more about who we are. They will come face to face with others who know us and those people will give insight to our children about us. As a result our relationship will grow closer. That is one aspect of reality, tomorrow we will deal with another. Father, we thank You that You have entrusted us to complete the tasks You assigned to Jesus.to seek and save the lost and restore that which is broken. >From time to time, as children, we need Your physical presence to remind us >that You are still our parent, but help us to continue on even though we may not see You. Help us walk in the truth, in the reality, that You are with us, and that Jesus will come again! ******************************************* O.
