Re: “The problem is we simply do not know!”

Answer: Not true. We KNOW. The Certification of Live Birth from
Hawaii, which is the only birth document that the Department of Health
of Hawaii issues these days, says very clearly that Obama was born in
Hawaii.

Re: “When reports surfaced that President-elect Obama's maternal
grandmother was claiming that she was was present at Obama's birth in
Mombasa in what is now Kenya, some people dismissed the statement as
unsubstanciated.”

Answer: It IS unsubstantiated. This is what Slate says about it:

“None of that stopped Berg from stoking the conspiracy theorists. On
Oct. 16, an Anabaptist minister named Ron McRae called Sarah Hussein
Obama, the president-elect’s 86-year-old paternal step-grandmother, at
her home in Kenya. Two translators were on the line when McRae asked
if the elder Obama was “present” when the president-elect was born.
One of the translators says “yes.” McRae contacted Berg and gave him a
partial transcript of the call with a signed affidavit. He opted not
to include the rest of the call, in which he asks the question more
directly—”Was he born in Mombassa?”—and the translators, finally
understanding him, tell him repeatedly that the president-elect was
born in Hawaii.”

Re: “But then, a birth certificate that turned out to be a forgery
made its way onto Obama's website. Why produce a forged birth
certificate?”

Answer: It is NOT forged. This is what a right-wing blog based in
Hawaii says about that:

Barack Obama: Born in Hawai`i
by Andrew Walden
|
It is time to focus on REAL issues, not imaginary ones.

A fairly impressive internet industry has sprung up claiming that
Obama was born in either Kenya or Indonesia. This is nonsense, which
distracts from the broadly unexplored story of Obama's upbringing.
This kind of nonsense has emerged because the McCain campaign chose
not to raise the many questions about Barack Obama's numerous hard-
left alliances. Barack Obama was born in Hawai`i, August 4, 1961 at
Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu.

Obama's birth certificate posted online is exactly the same birth
certificate everybody in Hawai`i gets from the State Department of
Health. It is not forged. There is nothing unusual about the design or
the texture. In addition to the birth certificate, the August 13, 1961
Honolulu Advertiser also carries an announcement of Obama's birth. The
Honolulu Star-Bulletin also carries the same announcement. Both papers
require submission of a copy of the birth certificate to print a birth
announcement.

Re: “Then there were the ambiguous statements from officials in Hawaii
who claimed that a "Certificate of Live Birth" exists for President-
elect Obama in Hawaii. However the laws of Hawaii allow for a child to
be furnished a "Certificate of Live Birth" even if the child was NOT
born in Hawaii.”

  Specifically, the statute reads:

"[§338-17.8] Certificates for children born out of State. (a) Upon
application of an adult or the legal parents of a minor child, the
director of health shall issue a birth certificate for such adult or
minor, provided that proof has been submitted to the director of
health that the legal parents of such individual while living without
the Territory or State of Hawaii had declared the Territory or State
of Hawaii as their legal residence for at least one year immediately
preceding the birth or adoption of such child."

Taking these in order. (1) The statement from the officials in Hawaii
had to be carefully written because the law in Hawaii forbids
releasing details from the birth records. However, what they said was
that they saw a birth certificate in the file. The ONLY way that this
can be ambiguous is the possibility (very very remote) that a birth
certificate other than a Hawaii exists in the files. But this
logically CANNOT be true because of the second point.

(2) Re: "[§338-17.8]. Yes Hawaii law allows the state to issue birth
certificates to children born outside of Hawaii. BUT Hawaii does not
allow those birth certificates to lie. Thus, if Obama were born in
Kenya, he would receive a birth document that says: Location of birth:
Kenya. Obama’s certification of live birth says: “Location of birth:
Honolulu.”

Going back to point one. Since if birth certificate in Obama’s files
said that he was born in Kenya that would have to be reflected on the
certification of live birth, the document in Obama’s files cannot have
been a birth certificate from Kenya, and hence the officials in Hawii
were not ambiguous.

Re: “Then there was the issue of college records that Obama refuses
to release. Why? Could those records indicate that he received
financial aid as a foreign student?”

This was an issue that could have been raised and discussed during the
campaign. It is not a constitutional issue. Why not? Because it is not
disqualifying to have dual nationality.

Re: “Recently Dr. Jerome Corsi traveled to Kenya to see if he could
find a birth certificate for President-elect Obama but was detained by
Kenyan officials. Again... Why?”

Answer: Sadly, only Corsi says this. Only Corsi says that he went to
Kenya at all. If there were any truth to it, or to the claim that
Kenya had sealed Obama files (if there are any), it would be
substantiated by a recognized news service.

Re: "In Hawaii, a Certification of Live Birth is issued within a year
of a child's birth to those who register a birth abroad or one that
takes place outside a hospital,' she said."

Answer: Yes Hawaii law allows the state to issue birth certificates to
children born outside of Hawaii. BUT Hawaii does not allow those birth
certificates to lie. Thus, if Obama were born in Kenya, he would
receive a birth document that says: Location of birth: Kenya. Obama’s
certification of live birth says: “Location of birth: Honolulu.”

Re: "'There's another problem. No record of Obama holding an American
passport prior to the one he received once becoming a U.S. senator has
been found. If he traveled to Pakistan with an American passport, he
wouldn't have been allowed in - since Pakistan was in turmoil in 1981
and under martial law. It was also on the State Department's travel
ban list for U.S. citizens,' she wrote.

"'If he couldn't get into Pakistan with a U.S. passport, perhaps he
went there with an Indonesian passport. But the only way you can get
one of those is if you are an Indonesian citizen.'"

Answer: It is not illegal nor is it grounds for losing eligibility to
be president to have dual nationality, and you cannot lose your US
citizenship due to actions taken by your parents when you were a
minor. If Obama’s parents applied for Indonesian citizenship for
themselves and for him, he still did not lose US citizenship. The only
way that anyone can lose US citizenship is by a voluntary act of
renunciation of citizenship when you are an adult. Since Obama was a
child at the time, he did not lose citizenship. And, you cannot lose
US citizenship due to traveling on a foreign passport.
