Wednesday December 17, 2008 PREGNANT WITH PRAISE
"For he, the Mighty One, is holy, and he has done great things for me. His mercy goes on from generation to generation, to all who fear him." Luke 1:49-50 These are the words of Mary spoken to Elizabeth, her cousin. We cannot begin to imagine the confusion this young girl experienced when, as a virgin, she became pregnant without having physical intercourse. The shame and rejection she faced is beyond our comprehension because pregnancy outside of marriage is commonplace today. Yet, Mary was not only willing to face this rejection, but praised God for blessing her with the gift. When Christ births Himself in us, we too are pregnant with His possibility. One of my favorite sayings is, "What we are is God's gift to us; what we become is our gift to God." Several times as I have shared the joy of praising and worshiping God with hurting people, I am asked if praising God is as good as using drugs. I often laugh, but I always share about the intimacy of the Holy Spirit. The first time I related it to the intimacy of intercourse I was almost embarrassed. However, the next morning, after using it the first time, as is God's usual custom, I received affirmation. The words were in God Calling: "Draw nigh, shoes off thy feet, in silent awe and adoration. Draw nigh, as Moses drew near to the burning bush. I give you the loving intimacy of a friend, but I am God too, and the wonder of intercourse, the miracle of your intimacy with Me, will mean more to you, if sometimes you see the Majestic Figure of the Son of God¼For every man there is the ideal man I see in him. The man he could be, the man I would have him be." God wants us to know Him, in every sense of the Word. The power of the Holy Spirit came fully on Mary and birthed in her the very Spirit of God in human form. Mary had spiritual intimacy with God and gave birth to the Son of Man. No wonder she could voice such praises! When we submit our will to God, when we are still and know Him in full reverence, He does fill us with joy overflowing, and there is no greater high than to be pregnant with tears of praise! May our hearts be filled with the fullness of God as we anticipate with joy Christ's second coming just as Mary anticipated His birth! ******************************************* O.
