Hello, We just got back from an adventure a couple of days ago and I thought I would share. We went up to the Christmas weekender to Oral Hull. we figured it might snow and we could get home anyway. Saturday was wonderful filled with A wonderful Christmas dinner, singing, and a gift exchange. It was so much fun. I had still not felt super great. I figured that I was still getting over my cold that I had gotten earlier that week. Instead of singing, I played the penny whistles.. wow! it was so much fun. there were a few miner flurries on Saturday and I kept praying, "Lord, let me get home to the rest of my animals. we had a wonderful light supper which consisted of appetizers. We had desert and were very full from all the huge dinner we had eaten as well earlier that afternoon. After just visiting for the remainder of the evening, we each trickled off to bed.
the next day we woke up and it was beginning to snow. I started packing early. Todd and I stripped the beds and Todd did a lot of packing of our suitcase and his belongings in his backpack. We went to breakfast with a little bit to finish up with after the meal. It was delicious with Coffee cake and oatmeal, and others had fruit cocktail. there was something else and I can't remember what it was now. Oh boy, but was that coffee cake ever good! While we were eating, we got the news that we would be leaving an hour earlier than scheduled. While we were in the dorm back in our room, we heard that we would leave at 12 or 12:e0. I was ready. I wanted to go in the worst way. I could taste it. Our bus driver had difficulty with getting to Oral hull and we boarded the bus at 12:59 only to be told that we were stuck there and that we had to get back off the buss. Only emergency vehicles would be allowed on the roads between sandy and Greshem. They had shut down the roads in and out of Greshem. I 205 had also been closed down. We were in for another night. I really wanted to go home. My sister was willing to come get us. when we heard that we would have a ride out of there the next day if the roads were clear enough, then we all relaxed and had fun once more. Becky, the cook and caretaker pulled it all together. She scrambled up lunch which was Grilled cheese and pretzels and we provided our own drinks for that meal. I had water to drink forgetting that I had some packets of tea in my bag. I'm a water drinker so often I choose water to drink during the day anyway. Becky called and made sure that the staff of the people living in managed care homes knew what happened to them and there was even a plan worked out if the power were to go out on us. We were taken care of so well at Oral Hull. the only thing I worried about was my birds and I hoped that our house wouldn't have frozen pipes when we got back home. I pray never to have frozen pipes at any time. Freezing pipes sounds like a major expense that no one needs. Later that night we had a wonderful pork dinner and it was so good. We had left over deserts too and it was all very delicious. that evening everyone just sat around and talked. It was awesome. We just were protected from thw eins blowing. We prayed that the power wouldn't go out and it never did. Woohoo! it was good to spend one more day with friends who we call our chosen family. Monday morning came and we had left for home. The executive director took Todd, colleen, her sister Lisa, and I all home. It was smoother up by Sandy than it was in the Portland and Beaverton area. We went all the way out past Hillsboro to take colleen's sister home. She nearly slipped in the ice and was like, "Ahhh!" Jeff, the director, was trying to get her wheelchair closer but Lisa was too quick for him and even after we had told her to wait, she jumped out anyway. So that was A scare no one needed. I thought she was going to fall, but Jeff kept that from happening. wow! that was a good save. the Oral Hull staff made sure that we were safe at all times. I kept wondering why Lisa's caregivers wouldn't come outside and help instead of leaving Jeff to do all of it himself. That's just my opinion though. Anyway, we rode back into the Beaverton Area and Dropped off Colleen.. Her parking lot was not so bad. Our driveway was a field of snow and ice. I stepped out in my tennis shoes and the cold ice started to come into my shoe. I thought I was going to slip and fall as some spots were slick. we went out back to relive River and It was just like a snow land back there. River wanted to play and since there was slippery ice right next to the door, I let him. I had been so afraid of slipping. It was so cold and windy that day! this was all happening on the valley floor. Yesterday the snow melted a bit but not enough to say much of anything. We went shopping and did some other errands with my sister. it was incredibly icy on the roads and it was a cold, muddy wet, slick paste on the roads. Tara said, stopping the car, "Open the door and reach down and feel what's on our roads." it was gross! I of course had the mud on my fingers. I looked twice. It was like nothing I had ever seen! we got home and Todd made some treks to the store to make sure we have everything. He's going to have to make one more trek. I hope he does it soon as it's starting a drizzling snow fall. I don't call it much more than a drizzle snow fall. the flakes are coming down slowly. We're in for more bad weather. Just please pray our pipes don't freeze? we are dripping water all day when we are not using it. Todd keeps taking out the filter so we don't waste our filtered water. Also, I'm still getting over this cold and don't really want to keep getting sick. I pray I'm over it sooner rather than later. During the storm we plan to make peanut clusters, and decorate the tree.
