Monday January 5, 2009 MALE AND FEMALE - RULE
So God created humans in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female. God blessed them and said, "Be fertile, increase in number, fill the earth, and be its master. Rule the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that crawl on the earth." God said, "I have given you every plant with seeds on the face of the earth and every tree that has fruit with seeds. This will be your food. "I have given all green plants as food to every land animal, every bird in the sky, and every animal that crawls on the earth - every living, breathing animal." And so it was. And God saw everything that he had made and that it was very good. There was evening, then morning - the sixth day. Genesis 1:27-31 And so God finally created beings in His own image to rule over His creation; beings in His own image! Imagine that? He even called that good. What He wanted from these beings was surrender to His plan - His will - would He get it? Well, we know the answer to that one. I am reading Andrew Murray's "Absolute Surrender and Other Addresses," difficult reading because it calls for difficult surrender. However, I needed it - desperately. This comes from his book: "Absolute surrender - let me tell you where I got those words. I used them myself often, and you have heard them numberless times. But in Scotland once I was in a company where we were talking about the condition of Christ's Church, and what the great need of the Church and of believers is; and there was in our company a godly worker who has much to do in training workers, and I asked him what he would say was the great need of the Church, and the message that ought to be preached. He answered very quietly and simply and determinedly: 'Absolute surrender to God is the one thing.'" He went on to say: "God has created the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the flowers, and the trees, and the grass; and are they not all absolutely surrendered to God? Do they not allow God to work in them just what He pleases? When God clothes the lily with its beauty, is it not yielded up, surrendered, given over to God as He works in it its beauty? And God's redeemed children, oh, can you think that God can work His work if there is only half or a part of them surrendered? God cannot do it. God is life, and love, and blessing, and power, and infinite beauty, and God delights to communicate Himself to every child who is prepared to receive Him; but ah! this one lack of absolute surrender is just the thing that hinders God." Believe me; I know exactly what he is talking about, having two children in my home that do not cooperate with us by obeying the rules, keeps our home in chaos. God set things up for us in an orderly fashion for our good and His glory. If we follow Him and surrender to Him, things work out well. If we don't, well, we all know what happens. This week we will look at what happened when the first humans went against Him. Put your thinking caps on and be ready to send me your comments.
