Monday February 9, 2009 HOW CONSIDERATE ARE YOU?
Let everyone know how considerate you are. The Lord is near. Philippians 4:5 Consideration, the gift of showing another person needed attention, compassion, interest, and value. These attributes should mark the behavior of a Christian who is walking in the Spirit of God. It is generally expected and given in church, but what about in the work setting or in our homes. Do we show co-workers and family the same sense of esteem we show those with whom we worship? In church we listen to the prayer requests for those who are sick and hospitalized, and occasionally we remember the elderly who are homebound. How often do we hear, or even ourselves verbalize, prayer requests for people with major depressive disorders, in prison, or recovery centers for rehabilitation for alcoholism and drug addiction? Jesus went to the people. He met people where they were. Remember the demoniac in the graveyard? There was no place where Jesus felt that He was too good to visit; no person He pushed away from Him. We need to show consideration for those in authority over us, in subjection to us, and more especially, to those who are lost and hurting. In the South, when a few of us get together and we come upon someone who is a little different than we are, we have a tendency to say, "they ain't our kind." Today, let's go and show special consideration to those who "ain't our kind." Father, only You know our heart. Only You can fix the broken places; and only You know that we have the ability to raise above our dis-ability to communicate with those who are hurting deep inside. Help us first, help ourselves, and second, reach out to others who are hurting. I think we just might find out that in reaching out we will be helping ourselves in the process. ******************************************* O.
