Monday February 16, 2009 BE STRONG AND VERY COURAGEOUS
After the death of the LORD's servant Moses, the LORD said to Moses' assistant Joshua, son of Nun, "My servant Moses is dead. Now you and all these people must cross the Jordan River into the land that I am going to give the people of Israel. I will give you every place on which you set foot, as I promised Moses. Your borders will be the desert on the south, nearby Lebanon to the Euphrates River (the country of the Hittites) on the north, and the Mediterranean Sea on the west. No one will be able to oppose you successfully as long as you live. I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will never neglect you or abandon you. Be strong and courageous, because you will help these people take possession of the land I swore to give their ancestors. "Only be strong and very courageous, faithfully doing everything in the teachings that my servant Moses commanded you. Don't turn away from them. Then you will succeed wherever you go." Joshua 1:1-7 Well, thanks to Valentine's Day, we missed Deuteronomy. Okay now, don't go getting all sad on me now; I'm not sure I could take it. Joshua was with Moses from the beginning; as his aide and his friend. Not only did he lead Israel's army, but most importantly, Joshua was one of the original spies sent into Canaan all those years before, and not only that, he came back with a "can do" attitude. He and Caleb urged Israel to pursue the battle; sure that God would guarantee victory over the Canaanites. Even with all of that going for him, the best thing training he had was serving under Moses. He observed first hand Moses' humble commitment to the God, and God's response of commitment to Moses. When God promised, "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you," he knew God wasn't just, whistling Dixie! Each of us needs a relationship with someone we can look up to, someone who can serve as a role-model for us. I know I did. I even asked a lady once if I could just stay with her for a week or two and observe how she did things so I could learn how "normal" people function. Of course, she just laughed me off, but I was down right serious! God gave me specific passages in Joshua over ten years ago that led me to start organizing this ministry. Yet, every year the reality grows on me that this ministry is not mine - it is definitely His! Therefore, I take great joy in knowing that if I died tomorrow God would provide a Joshua! Are you someone's Joshua? Has God placed you in a position of servant-hood to encourage, love, and support a person in a leadership position? Well, be encouraged. God will elevate you in His time. Lord, I know there are people reading this today that You have called to minister, people who love You with all their heart, but feel unworthy to reach out to another person because of something in their past. I pray that today, through the power of Your Holy Spirit they would hear the words You spoke to Joshua the same way I heard, or felt, in my spirit, "Be strong and courageous." I know it's hard Lord, so do You. So be ever near to them. In Jesus' name, Amen O.
