HOLY GROUND

When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of
him with a sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, "Are you one
of us or one of our enemies?" He answered, "Neither one! I am here as the
commander of the LORD's army." Immediately, Joshua bowed with his face touching
the ground and worshiped. He asked, "Sir, what do you want to tell me?" The
commander of the LORD's army said to Joshua, "Take off your sandals because
this place where you are standing is holy." So Joshua did as he was told.
Joshua 5:13-15

Well, Joshua has obeyed the Lord and gotten his people ready to press on. I
imagine that he is remembering the Word the Lord gave him; that everywhere he
walked the ground belonged to him. So, he is out walking to check out Jericho
when he learns that he is not alone.

Who is the commander of the Lord's army? Yes, Joshua meets Jesus face to face
and falls on his face out of sheer awe. Then Joshua submits himself to the
Lord's guidance. Isn't it amazing that the Lord told him to simply take off his
sandals because he was on Holy Ground? Joshua had heard those words before
when they were spoken to his leader - Moses. Maybe the Lord knew that Joshua
needed a connection, a reminder that he was indeed the leader - that he too
would walk on Holy Ground.

There is so much power in these verses. One of the major things I gleaned from
this is that we are never alone. God is always with us. He is our leader.
Another thing to remember is that anytime we take a step for the Lord we are
standing on Holy Ground. Like Joshua, we need to surrender to the Lord.

As far as I know, at this point, Joshua didn't have a Joshua. He was the
leader. Everything rested on his shoulders. That knowledge can be quite
intimidating
and worrisome. Every leader needs someone they can go to for accountability and
prayer. We all need a Spiritual Guide. Well, what better guide that the
Lord Jesus Christ Himself?

Maybe God has given you the responsibility of leading people in some form.
Maybe there are times when you do not have a Moses to run to or even a Joshua
to back you up. Well, Jesus wants you to know today that You have Him through
the person of the Holy Spirit. Maybe it is time for you to take a day and
just get in His Presence, take your shoes off, and allow yourself to experience
the power of Holy Ground.

Father, I don't know the people who will be reading this today, but You do.
Lord, embrace them with divine knowledge that You are with them. As we submit
to You, as we fall on our faces and rediscover the awe of You, renew our
strength.
