Friday April 24, 2009 CONFESSION
Then Job answered the LORD, "I know that you can do everything and that your plans are unstoppable. "You said, 'Who is this that belittles my advice without having any knowledge about it?' Yes, I have stated things I didn't understand, things too mysterious for me to know. "You said, 'Listen now, and I will speak. I will ask you, and you will teach me.' I had heard about you with my own ears, but now I have seen you with my own eyes." Job 42:1-5 Without a doubt, confession is good for the soul; that is the one thing the Catholic Church has on us - they give people the opportunity to confess and empty their souls on a regular basis - in confidence - to a live human being who will not pass judgment. One of the joys of doing what I do is allowing people to confess the wrongs they feel they have committed; as well as the wrongs committed against them. However, helping them reach a point where they feel "forgiven" is sometimes a long journey. Apparently Job had a teachable spirit. As soon as He heard the truth come from God he confessed his sin and repented. He also recognized a truth God wants us to grasp: nothing is impossible for Him! Like Job, sometimes we get into conversations and get carried away talking about things that are way over our head! Many times I think if we would just shut up and be still a minute we might receive a genuine Word from God about the matter at hand. Let's go back again to the beginning of this story. Remember that God was pleased with Job? Now, look again at the last line of scripture above. Yes, you read it right! Before this point of connecting with God, Job had just heard about God's goodness - now, he had a close encounter of the first kind; Job experienced God personally! Too many people believe God with their mind, but they haven't experienced Him with their heart! Oh, we can believe all we want to, but it will never be enough to get us into Heaven. We must experience God through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. God is real and He wants us to have a real experience with Him. He wants an intimate relationship with us. He wants us to know Him! What about you? Have you met God through His Son? Have you accepted the forgiveness He offers? Are you washed in the blood? If not, why not do that today? Oh, Lord, if there is just one person reading this today that hasn't really met You up close and personal I pray that the power of Your Holy Spirit would convict them of their need to confess that truth, accept Your forgiveness, and receive the salvation You so freely provide. Also touch those whose faith is failing because of the many storms that have come against them. Renew and refresh each and every one of us Lord so that we can go out and be a blessing to others in Your name! Oh, we need You more today than we needed You yesterday! ******************************************* O.
