Wednesday April 29, 2009 WHAT'S NEW?
"Absolutely pointless!" says the spokesman. "Absolutely pointless! Everything is pointless.". What do people gain from all their hard work under the sun? Generations come, and generations go, but the earth lasts forever. The sun rises, and the sun sets, and then it rushes back to the place where it will rise again. The wind blows toward the south and shifts toward the north. Round and round it blows. It blows in a full circle. All streams flow into the sea, but the sea is never full. The water goes back to the place where the streams began in order to start flowing again. Whatever has happened before will happen again. Whatever has been done before will be done again. There is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:2; 3-7 Have you ever wondered how the same man who wrote the book of Proverbs could ever come up with such a statement? Well, when you read verse nine you might understand a little better: "Whatever has happened before will happen again. Whatever has been done before will be done again. There is nothing new under the sun." Now that I can almost agree with - not much "under the sun" is new, but "in the Son" everything is made new! For four years the Lord has truly been teaching me the difference of walking in the flesh and walking in the Spirit. Now, I am a person of flesh, I have weaknesses and shortcomings - I have doubts and fears - in the flesh. However, when my eyes are focused on Jesus and I am walking in the power of His Spirit, I have no fear. I don't worry. I simply lean on His understanding instead of mine. Jesus left the glory of Heaven - the majestic praise choir - to take on a suit of flesh, to walk among sinful men, and even die for them - although they didn't care. Who are we to do less? Are you trusting your flesh or His Spirit? Heavenly Father, I come to You this morning and lay all of my doubts and fears at Your feet. Help me lean on You in all decisions I make. Make me new again today that I may be Your hand extended! ******************************************* O.
