Tuesday May 19, 2009 THE HUMILITY OF HIS BIRTH
The people who walk in darkness will see a bright light. The light will shine on those who live in the land of death's shadow. A child will be born for us. A son will be given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. He will be named: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and peace will have unlimited growth. He will establish David's throne and kingdom. He will uphold it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The LORD of Armies is determined to do this! Isaiah 9:2, 6-7 Hallelujah! A child is born - and what a child He was - and is! I've never really thought about it until now, but Jesus continues to be God's child. Nothing changed in that sense when He was resurrected. He continues to be the Son of God and under the loving care of His Father -and ours! There is very definitely something spectacular about the birth of a child. Think about it -God could have brought Jesus into the world any way He wanted to, but He elected to use the common form of birth. What mother among us can't truly appreciate the fact that Jesus kicked His mother until His arrival? What mother can't relate to looking into the eyes of her baby and being amazed at the miracle she holds in her hands? Childbirth is almost as amazing as grace! However, this precious child grew up and walked in the plan God laid out for Him from the beginning of time. He became our Wonderful Counselor! Yes, Jesus is our counselor. He understands exactly what we are going through. No, He may not have experienced our particular circumstances while walking on planet Earth, but He has experienced it extemporaneously! He experiences it with us because He dwells within us! Wow! Yes, He is Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. Yes, all of those things are very important to me and have ministered to me at one time or another. Yet, it is the last statement in today's scripture that grabs my heart - "The passionate commitment of the LORD Almighty will guarantee this!" His "passionate commitment" guarantees that we are protected with His fairness and justice! I know, I know, sometimes life just doesn't seem fair. I can relate to the unfairness attitude, but maybe we need to revisit what fair really is! None of us deserves anything but hell! What part of that do we not understand? Just one day of my life before Christ would condemn me to hell.maybe even one day since that time! In any event, even when my attitude isn't as "thankful" as it needs to be the fairness of His grace covers me. What an amazing brother we have! I don't know when you've spoken to Him last and thanked Him for submitting to the plan of being born human, but today might be a good one to do just exactly that! Precious Jesus, Wonderful Counselor, my Savior, my brother, and my friend, I thank You so much for the humility that led you to come to earth through the birth experience. I can't imagine leaving the splendor of Heaven for the darkness of a womb, but You did it! I thank You and praise You for that today. Please accept my humble praise and know that I need Your love more today than I did yesterday! I love you! ******************************************* O.
