HIS SPOKESPERSON

The LORD spoke his word to me,
"Before I formed you in the womb,
I knew you.
Before you were born,
I set you apart for my holy purpose.
I appointed you to be a prophet to the nations."
I, Jeremiah, said, "Almighty LORD, I do not know how to speak. I am only a boy!"
But the LORD said to me, "Don't say that you are only a boy. You will go
wherever I send you. You will say whatever I command you to say. Don't be afraid
of people. I am with you, and I will rescue you," declares the LORD.
Then the LORD stretched out his hand and touched my mouth. The LORD said to me,
"Now I have put my words in your mouth.
Today I have put you in charge of nations and kingdoms.
You will uproot and tear down.
You will destroy and overthrow.
You will build and plant."
Jeremiah 1:4-10

Well, it starts today.a brief walkthrough on that awesome prophet.Jeremiah. He
and I have so much in common, but what about you? How long has God been trying
to get your attention? How long have you known that He has a plan for your
life, but you just can't seem to believe that He would want to use you in that
capacity? Maybe you can relate with Jeremiah. Yet, again, maybe you know all
this and still you just can't seem to get it together!

Well, again, I will use Max Lucado's words from the New Century Bible, on his
introduction to the book of Jeremiah to encourage you:
"No church would hire Jeremiah. He wouldn't make it past the first interview.
Better still, he wouldn't even make it to the interview. He had little stomach
for organized religion. One can hardly blame him. What he saw would nauseate
the worst of us. He saw raging immorality. He saw blatant idolatry. He saw
unbridled hypocrisy. He saw priests who sold out to the highest bidder. He saw
kings who lived out his worst nightmare. Were his head a Niagara, it wouldn't
generate enough tears for him to weep. Like Job, he cursed the day he was born,
and again, you can hardly blame him. It was a rotten day in which to live.
He could see the writing on the Babylonian wall, but you'd think he was the
only one who knew how to read. In the end, the walls fell, just like he said.
The Temple was raided, just like he prophesied. And the people were bound like
slaves and led into Babylon. To his credit, he never said, 'I told you so.'
He remained behind and walked along the ruins and did what he did most of his
life. He wept."

Many of us are like Jeremiah; we are sick and tired of organized religion and
need the fresh wind of His Holy Spirit to blow on us. However, like Jeremiah,
we may need to taste it for a time, but then God will call us back to the task
He assigned us to and we may find ourselves in a cistern or two. Nevertheless,
also like Jeremiah, we need to be true to the call of God on our lives.

As for me, that is my call, to build others up and plant them in the truth of
His love. Jeremiah didn't wait for the people to come to him, he often walked
the lonely road of rejection and being misunderstood and I am glad he did. The
words God gave him have both convicted me and encouraged me to be all that
God wants me to be. Yes, I admit, I have fallen way short, and I have a long
way to go, but I know who walks with me. Let's be about His work today -
discovering
the plan He has for us and the path He wants us to walk.

Holy Spirit, come refresh me for the path I will walk today. Renew me with the
fire of Your love. Speak in that still small voice the words You would have
me speak to each person I come in contact with. Help me be the spokesperson the
Father wants me to be.
