Wednesday June 24, 2009 PLEASING WHO?
Brace yourself, Jeremiah! Stand up, and say to them whatever I tell you to say. Don't be terrified in their presence, or I will make you even more terrified in their presence. Today I have made you like a fortified city, an iron pillar, and a bronze wall. You will be able to stand up to the whole land. You will be able to stand up to Judah's kings, its officials, its priests, and all the common people. They will fight you, but they will not defeat you. I am with you, and I will rescue you," declares the LORD. Jeremiah 1:17-19 This passage of scripture is one of those that can drive you absolutely nuts if God has ever placed a call on your life. I remember the first time I read it after knowing God wanted me to start the ministry. It seemed every time I was in a small group of any kind and there was a discussion, when it came time for me to inject my opinion it was as though I wasn't even in the room. It was though I didn't even have a voice. So, is it any wonder that I questioned God that anyone would even listen to me? Several people even agreed! Many people didn't understand. Many people even suggested that I was unstable and outside of God's plan with the idea. However, I had to go on the Word God had given me several years ago and when I did, things started falling into place. God sent reassurance after reassurance that I was on the right path. God doesn't want us to be people pleasers. He wants us to please Him and Him alone. No one else can tell us what God wants us to do. Yes, He may use others to encourage us along the path, but only God can direct our steps. Father, I thank You for Your guiding hand. Guide us closer to Your heart and Your purpose for our lives.
