Thursday June 25, 2009 FOUGHT ANY BATTLES LATELY?
O LORD, even if I would argue my case with you, you would always be right. Yet, I want to talk to you about your justice. Why do wicked people succeed? Why do treacherous people have peace and quiet? You plant them, and they take root. They grow, and they produce fruit. They speak well of you with their lips, but their hearts are far from you. You know me, O LORD. You see me and test my devotion to you. Drag them away like sheep to be slaughtered. Prepare them for the day of slaughter. How long will the land mourn? How long will the plants in every field remain dried up? The animals and the birds are dying, because people are wicked. They think that God doesn't know what they are doing. "If you have raced against others on foot, and they have tired you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in open country, how can you live in the jungle along the Jordan River? Even your relatives and members of your father's household betray you. They have also formed a mob to find you. Don't trust them when they say good things about you. Jeremiah 12:1-6 Let me take a few lines and get on my soap box about something - please. It's about "earned-income credit" a wonderful thing if it's not abused. Many people today are getting mega bucks because they don't make much money, but they have children, so the government gives them "earned income credit." This simply means they get extra money back because they don't earn a lot I guess. Now, with this "unearned" money, they buy things that other people, who make just a little too much can't afford, and that boosts the economy. Is this fair? Okay, I'm not in pity city - I promise. I just want to make a point here. You see, I know people who get "earned income credit," who have children, yet don't have custody of them, and don't own a home or anything, and some are living off other people - this is cheating the government. Have you ever felt like talking to the Lord (or even IRS) about these things? I have, and this is the passage of scripture He led me to. In this day and time we have to fight our battle with blinders on. We can't look to the left or to the right and try to determine what is fair or not fair. We have to simply do what God tells us to do and not worry about what other people are or aren't doing. Heard that before? As Joyce Meyer often says, "We have to do the right thing even when no one else is." Hard - huh? Praise be to God, as David always proclaimed, "The battle belongs to the Lord." He is our shield. He is our fortress. We don't need to look to men or ammunition. We have Almighty God to be our strength. I don't know about you, but just talking about it makes me ready to fight. However, let's be sure we are fighting the enemy and not each other! Our major weapon is - love! We are not responsible for what other people do, we are simply responsible for our behavior and the major behavior is love. Ouch! Hallelujah! Wow, now I feel all better. Father, I thank You again for being all that we will ever need. Thank You for the mighty power of the Holy Spirit and the multitude of angels that You provide for us. Thank You to for giving us a sound mind and Your Word to stand on, even if it does hurt us some time. You are awesome!
