NEED ACCEPTANCE?
"The person who welcomes you welcomes me, and the person who welcomes me
welcomes the one who sent me. The person who welcomes a prophet as a prophet
will
receive a prophet's reward. The person who welcomes a righteous person as a
righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward. I can guarantee
this truth: Whoever gives any of my humble followers a cup of cold water
because that person is my disciple will certainly never lose his reward."
Matthew 10:40-42
Have you ever gone anywhere and just felt like you were totally unwelcome? I
think we all have at some point in our lives. Most of us have experienced
rejection
in the innermost part of who we are. Well, Jesus is telling us that when we
feel that - He is feeling it with us.
Paul often said that if we want to ask God for spiritual gifts, the best gift
to ask for is the gift of being a prophet. Yet, let me tell you, most prophets
in the Bible were not accepted by their peers or understood by their families.
Jesus understands. The Savior of the world was rejected and continues to
be by the multitudes.
I really think what Jesus is telling us is that we are to welcome people into
our lives no matter what position they are in. It doesn't matter if the person
is a marvelous prophet, a truly godly person, or a homeless person desperately
in need of a cup of cold water. No matter who we are or what we do each
and every one of us has a need to be accepted. However, we do not need to let
being accepted be the motive behind anything we do.
When God first began birthing Woes to Wows Ministries inside of me I hungered
for my Pastor to recognize it and accept me. I did numerous things to get
his attention. It didn't happen. When I finally reached the place where God's
will burned so fiercely within me that I pressed on with or without acceptance
things began to happen.
Whether God's will involves inviting the Pastor's family over for dinner,
ministering to a person with emotional pain, offering a cup of cold water, or
a cup of hot coffee I just want to be where He wants me to be - on time! That
is my goal!
How about you? Do you still hunger for acceptance and respect?
Father, help us today to recognize that You accept us, that in Your eyes we are
totally accepted because of the shed blood of Jesus. Move us beyond our
pettiness and our hunger to be significant in the eyes of the people we care
about so deeply. Mount us up on eagle's wings today and help us soar in the
power of the Holy Spirit. We will give You all the glory You deserve!
