KNOW A WEED?

Jesus used another illustration. He said, "The kingdom of heaven is like a man
who planted good seed in his field. But while people were asleep, his enemy
planted weeds in the wheat field and went away. When the wheat came up and
formed kernels, weeds appeared.
"The owner's workers came to him and asked, 'Sir, didn't you plant good seed in
your field? Where did the weeds come from?'
"He told them, 'An enemy did this.'
"His workers asked him, 'Do you want us to pull out the weeds?'
"He replied, 'No. If you pull out the weeds, you may pull out the wheat with
them. Let both grow together until the harvest. When the grain is cut, I will
tell the workers to gather the weeds first and tie them in bundles to be
burned. But I'll have them bring the wheat into my barn.'"
Matthew 13:24-30

When asked by the disciples to explain the above story, Jesus told them that
Satan is the enemy who plants the bad seed among us. Harvest is the end of
time. The Harvesters are the angels. The barn is Heaven, and the weeds will
burn in hell; harsh, but true. However, this story can also be used in our
day-to-day walk with Him.

Anytime we start doing a work for the Lord, Satan will plant some weed seeds.
On any given day we may be sitting beside a weed in church or even have one
in our home. Yet, with our physical eyes we can't really determine the
difference. Only the Harvesters know who is what.

Why would God want to leave the weeds with the wheat? Well, what I have learned
is that their presence makes me look up to God and not out to man. I know
for a fact that there are many weeds in my life. It is not my job to pluck
them, but to grow strong and tall in my spiritual life so that they can see
my Father; unfortunately, too many times I have failed Him and them. We will
often discover that the weeds wither when the light of Christ shines brightly
through us.

God allows the bad things that happen in our lives to strengthen us. When we
focus on Him and keep pressing on in our service to Him our faith grows stronger
- or at least - in should - that is His plan. As I read in Isaiah this morning
it amazed me that Isaiah spoke some pretty strong words against Egypt. Israel
often called on Egypt to assist them in their battles with Assyria. However,
God was reordering their priorities. He wanted them to trust Him! Yet, He
wasn't throwing Egypt away permanently. He had a plan. God told Isaiah to
prophesy, "When that day comes, an altar for the LORD will be in the middle of
Egypt, and a stone marker for the LORD will be near its border. These objects
will be a sign and a witness that the LORD of Armies is in Egypt. When the
people cry to the LORD because of those who oppress them, he will send a savior
and defender to rescue them." (Isaiah 19:19-20)

Jesus Christ was and is that Savior. While walking this Earth in human form He
stood up for the oppressed and allowed them to walk with Him and did not
worry about what religious people thought. If we are going to walk in His
footsteps we too must defend the oppressed. With all my heart I believe that
Jesus will tarry until a godly man or woman represents the last group of
oppressed people. However, when they are given voice and walk in victory we will
hear the trumpet sound and see the weeds burn right along with their agent -
Satan Himself! What a day that will be!

Father we seek Your forgiveness in not hearing Your call to stand for the
rights of the oppressed. Speak louder Lord, I believe Your servants are trying
to hear but the wind in the weeds keeps getting them off track. Send a great
revival Lord and set the captives free!
