Wednesday September 9, 2009 WHAT WATTAGE ARE YOU?
God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but to save the world. Those who believe in him won't be condemned. But those who don't believe are already condemned because they don't believe in God's only Son. This is why people are condemned: The light came into the world. Yet, people loved the dark rather than the light because their actions were evil. People who do what is wrong hate the light and don't come to the light. They don't want their actions to be exposed. But people who do what is true come to the light so that the things they do for God may be clearly seen. John 3:16-21 There is just something awesome to me about how light overcomes darkness. Can you imagine anyone in this day and age choosing not to have electricity? Well, there are people choosing everyday to live without the power of God in their lives. Why? Because every time they get in the light they see dirt on themselves and they become afraid. I know. I lived that way for a very, very long time! Then on October 15, 1975, Jesus came in, washed the dirt off, and keeps trying to keep the shame away. Sometimes He's successful. Unfortunately, most "church people" have become like 175 watt bulbs that expose way too much of another person's dirt. I don't know about you, but I like 40-watt bulbs and I hope that is the way I live my life. Don't get me wrong, there are times when I know we need the awesome light that spotlights bring, in order to expose some truth, but do we have to walk around flashing people all the time? Maybe I am just weird, but I love watching the light come on in the lives of hurting people. I love it when a truth sinks in and they begin allowing the light to shine through them. Maybe I am just getting old, but I am actually getting to the place where I enjoy other people being in the spotlight more than I am, maybe that's why I've pretty much become a recluse over the past two years. Funny, but for several years the Lord has been telling me that I am going to be a "stage mom." Now, I had no clue what that meant, but He revealed it to me not too long ago. I was sitting with two young men whom God is using as pastors. They hunger to know God more. We sat, just the three of us after a long time of tender praise and worship, and God led me to share some things with them. The light of God showed up in a profound way to show us how intimate He wants to be with us. I can't even remember the illustration God gave me because it was so Him and not me. I am going to be a stage mom by encouraging young men and women to press on in their walk with Him by teaching them what genuine worship is. However, the important thing that came out of our time together was that we have to get to where we do not even smell the stench of sin in another person's life. When we can do that, we can be a light in their darkness that will not push them away. Instead, like light to a moth, they will want to fly closer to the light and maybe it will draw us closer too. Father, I thank You that You so loved the world that You sent us Your precious Son. You love even the people who stink so badly with sin, You died for them. I know, Father, I know, I remain one of those people in the eyes of many, but all You see when You look at me now is that precious blood. Keep shining Your light in my life to reveal what needs changing, even when I say stop. O.
