Ability and Dependability in Serving Others
Dr. Zachary Tims, Jr.

The Bible says in Luke 16:10-12, "He that is faithful in that which is least is
faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also
in much.... And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's,
who shall give you that which is your own?"

One of the hardest challenges in the church is to get members involved in
serving others.

"Speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head
- Christ...from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every
joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its
share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love." Ephesians
4:15-16.

God has given the church spiritual gifts. He needs your abilities to help
others. God works through man. That is why He has blessed you. There is
something
you can do in your church to help others. You have no problem giving all of
your skills to a boss or a company, so why should you hold back on serving
others in the household of God?

The greatest ability is dependability. Jesus taught us in the Word that
greatness is locked in your ability to help others. True Servanthood is, "The
greatest
in the Kingdom of God is a servant." Mark 9:33-35. In Psalm 92:12-13, "Those
that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our
God." The church is the incubator for your success and the greenhouse of your
productivity.

On the day of Pentecost, in Acts 2, everyone was in one accord in one place in
the upper room. They sensed the purpose of community, inspired by teamwork
sanctioned by the breath of God through His Holy Spirit. God multiplied them
and blessed those who were willing to work together.

Pastors need their members to get involved in helping others, sheep helping
sheep. The Apostles, in Acts 5, were distracted in their purpose to evangelize
new souls. They looked out amongst the church and found some faithful people
willing to help serve others.

You want so much more in life, but are you willing to pay the price? Stop
short-changing God, and shortchanging your blessing by holding back. God has
graced
you with a gift to give to the family of God where you are called to serve.

Can we depend on you? Are you willing to carry your share of the load in the
local church? Your ability to be dependable in serving the needs of others
is necessary for the church to grow and prosper in this earth for heaven's sake.
