Wednesday September 30, 2009 PENTECOST
And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-4 Without a doubt this is one of the most controversial topics in the New Testament. Yet, no matter what we take from this passage of scripture we must recognize that something incredibly supernatural happened that day! I think most denominations do recognize that the Holy Spirit came that day, it's just that most don't want to believe it still happens today. Let me assure you of this one thing - if we had no preconceived idea of how God manifests Himself in our presence we would receive more of Him than we can even begin to imagine. I'm sure the people in that room that day had no idea what God was about to do. They simply wanted to take the next step in their journey with Jesus. When we accept the truth that Jesus died for our sins and make the decision to follow in His footsteps - we receive salvation; our lives are changed. The freedom just in knowing that no matter what we have done is forgiven brings sweet relief. Our mind is renewed as the guilt that Satan once used to deter us from the ways of God is now free to seek after God without a wall standing between us. However, once we've been walking the road for a while and we begin to face troubles on every hand, we need time to deal with those things. That is part of what took place between those Believers prior to Pentecost! My day of Pentecost happened quite innocently. Following a four-day retreat, called the Emmaus Walk, I called into a prayer line with special needs. I hung up the phone that day with a brand new power available that I didn't fully understand. Anytime I entered into my quiet time with the Lord new and deeper truths emerged. Yet, because I didn't understand it took me years before I walked in the anointing. The power the Holy Spirit manifested at Pentecost is truly a whole different aspect of our walk with the Lord. It is then we begin to see the truth and walk in the truth - no matter how deeply it hurts. People will not understand - they didn't then - they won't now - at least not until they experience Him for themselves. Father, I pray that You would help us lay aside every preconceived notion of Who You are and how You work. We need a fresh touch, Lord. We need Your blaze burning within us to cleanse us and recreate us so that we can accomplish Your plan and purpose for our lives with power! O.
