Facing the Sadness
by Steve Arterburn

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
and purify us from all unrighteousness.1 John 1:9

If you're like me, you struggle with your conscience day in and day out, trying
to make and keep peace with your own heart. You may deny what you've done,
find excuses, or try to squirm out from beneath the full weight of your
conduct. You may work hard to be "good," trying to counteract your wrongs.
Again,
if you're like me, you do everything you can to even out the score when you
make a mistake.

In order to put the past to rest, however, it helps to stop rationalizing your
sin and admit the truth. It's time to be honest with God and yourself about
your cover-ups and the exact nature of your wrongs. And it's important to admit
that what you've done has caused others to experience pain.

Only when you confess your sins will you find the internal peace you lost so
long ago. When you face the sadness of your sin, you can find joy on the other
side.

"Confession is the first step to repentance." - English Proverb
