Grandmother's little comb
by: Cynthia Groopman

As a child, I would admire my Grandmother Roses' hair. She was 60 years my
senior but did not have gray or white hair at all. Although her body aged her
hair was always black. Grandmother used to wear little combs in her hair to
keep it in place. These little combs were the color of her hair and were like
barrettes. I was intrigued with these little combs.

Grandmother aged, passed away and I became older and never paid any mind to
grandmother's little combs. Then, while in her former room, and looking through
her dresser drawer on a rainy weekend to find a surprise to cheer me me up, I
suddenly came upon one of grandmother's little combs .I gently touched it an my
mind was transported by magic carpet to 50 ears ago at age twelve, and seeing
my grandmother in my mind's eye with her elegant hair and the combs, made me
bask
in nostalgia land.

Well, the comb was fondled by me and suddenly I heard my grandmother's clear
voice, something that was silenced for me since 2002. What a beautiful
experience and what joy and smiles it brought me. Possessions of loved ones,
are cherished jewels because our loved ones are gems. Memories are a treasure
and are in my treasure chest of mirth and forever as precious as gold and as
bright as a smile.
