I'm fairly certain that we're already using features of 4.0... although I agree that if we're not yet requiring 4.0 in the first place, then it's somewhat silly to discuss which revision of 4.0 should be the minimum.
It wouldn't be hard to switch back to the previous pair of queries, but it sure would be nice to use the single query!
