We use Cyrus as our main mail store, mainly due to it's IMAP4rev1
support. However it's a royal pain in the ass to maintain.
I found dbmail today thanks to Freshmeat.net. It compiled and installed
cleanly and it's so small! More importantly I can fiddle to my heart's
content with the mail store - SQL searches even, yummy!
However, there's one thing missing - shared folders. We use our mail
store as a fundamental part of our filing structure and heavily rely
several sets of shared folders for filing. I could get round this by
creating virtual mail users and adding them as secondary accounts in our
e-mail clients but it would be really nice if dbmail could support this
properly.
I suspect your main problem will be a complete lack of access control
lists. dbmail has a user which is the absolute owner of a mailbox and no
way of allowing other people to read it. To support shared mailboxes
properly you will need ACLs and to hold the seen flags for a message per
message per user, not per message.
