Dan, I've located the problem. I'll fix this asap.
In addition, I have noticed some of the following errors pop up on the
console around the same time:

(process:3645): gmime-WARNING **: Invalid msg-id; missing '<':
Those are just that: warnings. Gmime encounters invalid Message-ID
headers, probably from spam messages and such. No problem there, afaik.
